Staying the Course

August 23, 2010

Oy.

You know that saying, “biting off more than you can chew”? I never do that. I’m a huge pig and no matter how much food I pile onto my plate, I finish it. I may be sick and regretful the rest of the day, but that plate will be clean.

The same goes for our Save the Dates. I think maybe I piled a bit too much onto my already full plate this time, but damn it, I will finish! I will finish this insanely long process if it kills me and causes my stomach to explode. Not necessarily in that order.

I’ve been chewing (assembling) for about a month now. I can’t believe it’s been that long! Now that everything’s printed and all the materials are in my hands, it seems like we should be in the home stretch, but we’re kind of not. Do I regret designing such a labor-intensive Save the Date? Not really—but I am starting to wish I’d allotted myself a little more time.

Even with Bela’s (and Brad’s) help, this is a lot of work. I’d hoped to get the Save the Dates out at least 11 months in advance, but that deadline has come and gone. I’ll be lucky if they go out by the beginning of September at this point. At least I’ve learned a few lessons:

  • I should get started on the invitations as early as humanly possible.
  • Next time I plan a Cricut-intensive project, I should buy more extra cutting mats and blades than I think I need.
  • Brad should always be in charge of the Xyron.
  • I should start things earlier.

That’s about it for now, but there are surely more lessons to come, since I still have 14 steps left (according to my “Save the Date Tasks” list in my fantastic Bento database).

So, to those of you who I bugged for mailing addresses WEEKS ago who have yet to receive anything—I haven’t cut you from the guest list, I promise. I’m just SLOW. I just hope these are done in the next week or two, because the September Vogue is waiting patiently on my kitchen counter, and if I don’t get to read it soon, I may spontaneously burst into flame.

omg I give you so much credit because I never would have been able to do my STD and Invitations by myself! Wish I was there to help you!!

Did you atleast get to the September issue of Instyle?!

Oh hell yes! I took some time to read that one over the weekend — I couldn’t STAND waiting. Mmmmmmmmm, booooooots.

ahhhh my INSTYLE, VOGUE, ANNNNNND HARPERS BAZAAR September issues are sitting unopened on my table 😦

ps- this seems really hard. I think I’ll learn a lesson from your 95 step DIY save the date process and outsource it bc I don’t think I have the patience and craftiness that you do.

I am SO not crafty — I’m just a control freak and can’t seem to handle outsourcing without panic attacks. But then again, I’m not in law school — I think I’d probably have to get over it if I was busy being super smart and awesome. =)
